Challenges

  • Improve the process for locating Field Medical Directors — the previous system was inefficient and inaccurate.
  • Create an efficient way to search and sort blog posts, news, and press releases.
  • Develop a robust, sitewide search with intelligent, user-friendly results.

Solutions

  • Replaced a third-party store locator plugin with a custom-built JavaScript search solution. All provider and location data is stored in a custom JSON-based API, allowing easy maintenance and updates. The new search logic finds exact ZIP code matches or, when unavailable, returns the nearest match and displays the corresponding provider details.
  • Implemented custom JavaScript logic combined with post type filters, categories, and keyword matching to enable intuitive sorting and searching across multiple content types.
  • Built a custom JavaScript-powered search tool featuring fuzzy keyword and phrase matching, suggested results, and logic for common “stop words.” When no results are found, the system recommends popular or related searches. The fully custom solution replaced the need for plugins, improving both control and performance.

My Role

This project involved developing a comprehensive, content-driven WordPress website for Dermavant Sciences, a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to advancing medical dermatology. The goal was to create a professional, FDA-compliant online presence that effectively communicated the company’s research pipeline, clinical progress, and product launches — including the introduction of VTAMA® (tapinarof) cream. The website needed to balance a sleek, corporate design with high functionality, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and regulatory compliance across all content.

As the Front-End Developer, I built a custom WordPress theme using Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) to provide flexible, structured content management for the client’s ongoing updates. I implemented accessibility standards (WCAG 2.0) and optimized performance across a content-heavy site.

I also managed regular updates to the company’s blog and press release sections, ensuring consistency with FDA-approved materials and internal review standards. Working closely with the client, I focused on maintaining precision, usability, and brand consistency throughout a highly regulated and detail-oriented environment.

Disclaimer: Following Dermavant’s acquisition by Organon, the original website is no longer live. The available staging materials only reflect portions of the site, as many custom components and modules are no longer accessible. The full project was a large-scale build developed by me.
